Message from Coach Ben- Week #3 update & First Meet Prep!

Barracudas-

Happy Mother’s Day!

Welcome to week 3.

This week our theme will be “going for goals” and “level up”.

What are achievable goals our swimmers and even parents can work towards to get the green machine rocking and rolling for our first meet this Saturday!

Please be sure to review the next steps that Lauren sent out regarding rules and policies all of us must abide by throughout the season during meet days.

DECLARE NOW

RSVP NOW and Declare your swimmer for our next meet against Julington Creek Porpoises on May 16.

Step 1: Sign Up Calendar

Step 2: Meet Entry

Step 3: Edit Entry (attending or not attending)

TARDY TO MEET POLICY

This is a reminder that our policy is now and has been for meet days: if your

swimmer is not declared present and checked in by the time their warm up ends, they must be removed from relays because we have to make and submit adjustments asap to the meet manager before the meet begins.

If you arrive to the swim meet around warm up time, you can wait in line to check in and send your swimmer to the Coaching Staff for warm ups.

At times, we’ve had to make adjustments after our pre meet team powwow and let swimmers know that their relay assignments have been changed or modified because of other’s attendance issues. We typically call over parents and swimmers if this occurs so everyone knows the changes and expectations before the meet starts.

Please be sure to check Meet Entries for your swimmer for both individual AND relay entries, these can be found on the sign up calendar under the specific swim meet, they come in pdf files to save and/or take screen shots/record on your swimmer’s forearm with sharpie (which is standard practice)

In the past we’ve had swimmers peace out and leave the meet early, leaving a relay they were in high and dry to fend for themselves.

let’s all limit that possibility this summer.

Check in with Coach Krista or I if you are planning to leave earlier than when the meet is over AND after checking both individual and relay entries for your swimmer.

INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES

This week we will be honing in on breaststroke and butterfly skills/drills to enhance our swimmer’s knowledge of ALL four strokes.

Coach Krista and I input swimmers into events based on current skill sets and for swimmers to perform ALL events and strokes throughout the summer to get updated times to make the best possible mock up of entries for CHAMPS in July.

This means at times our athletes may be swimming events that will challenge them to achieve expectations of performing the strokes more efficiently, not getting disqualified, or dropping time to get better in ALL strokes and events throughout the season.

Please support this effort. If your swimmer needs to talk to coaches about their entries, please model and guide them into self advocating their needs to their coaches directly, this is the process of independency as well as knowing that we have a TEAM mindset, the coaches are ALWAYS willing to work with SWIMMERS needs.

RELAYS ENTRIES

Relays are generated by taking the best documented times of all swimmers in attendance at each meet. There are Freestyle relays and IM relays, which takes the best time for each stroke (Butterfly, Back, Breast, Free) to make a relay.

There are typically 2-4 relays (A-D) each and swimmers are based again, on times.

No matter what relays our swimmers are on, I expect leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship of all swimmers with their teammates.

We will be discussing that this week too.

Let’s have a great week of practice and prep for our first meet to is summer.

Let’s Go Barracudas!
